Bio: I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but have lived in Virginia since 2001. I received my BA in Communication with a concentration in journalism from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA where I served as managing editor for the student newspaper, Broadside, and later the Best of Mason issue of the student-run VOX|POP magazine. I am a passionate journalist with an affinity for cultures and an addiction to green tea, chocolate, baseball, and tennis. In June 2011, Annandale Patch received the Business of the Year award from the Annandale Chamber of Commerce for their coverage of the Annandale community.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
I am registered as a Democrat, but I keep an open mind when it comes to politics. In previous elections, both national and local, I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. I believe understanding several viewpoints of any issue lead to making a better decision and I tend to form my opinion after I've gathered as much information as possible from a variety of sources.
Religion
I was raised in a mostly Baptist family and would consider myself a casual attendee who is observant of the practices of the Baptist church. I have a budding interest in pursuing Buddhism.
Local Hot-Button Issues
I think the issue of overcrowding at the school's and finding the balance of how to keep Annandale students in attendance at school's in Annandale rather than outside of the city is going to be interesting to figure out. There are many details still left undecided on how to alleviate this problem. As a frequent traveler to other parts of Fairfax County, I am also always interested in what's going on with the HOT lanes and construction on I-495.
