They were asked to read 20 books over the summer and report their efforts in a journal. Students who read at least 10 books met the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Summer Reading Challenge and will receive two free tickets to opening day. King Street Primary prides itself on setting high standards and giving students the tools they need to meet and exceed those standards.

Hayestown also offers the Book Swap Shelf, where students can swap 4th through 6th grade chapter books for free. Before classes started Hayestown hosted "Meet your Classmates," a kindergarten gathering for new students, parents, teachers and the PTO on the playground.
