It also manages the Metro North commuter parking lot at the Danbury station. One of the authority's goals is to help people avoid parking tickets, and the Park Smart Card is designed to do just that. The $5 card lets people pay for a few hours of parking in advance and swipe the card in a meter for, say, 30 minutes. If they come back quickly, the meter returns the unused minutes to the card by swiping the card a second time.
