Today is “Pink Shirt Day!” It’s a color with a message. Wooster students are wearing pink shirts today to raise awareness about bullying in schools, in society, and on the Internet. Current sixth grader, Ynez Formichella ’19 brought the anti-bullying campaign to Wooster. During recent school breaks, Nez enlisted many other Wooster students to create posters in preparation for the day. Her goal is to raise awareness of the little-known day and the issues that Pink Shirt Day recognizes.
Wooster not only promotes Nez and her cause, but the Wooster community also strives to stand up to bullies near and far. In wearing a pink shirt, Wooster students pledge never to act as bullies and never to condone the actions of those who do. This day was first started by two high school students in Nova Scotia who were outraged by students in their school who bullied another student for wearing a pink shirt. They went out and bought pink shirts for all of the boys in their school and they wore them on the same day to protest against those who bullied their fellow student.
Thank you, Nez, for raising awareness! Now, go put on your pink shirt!
