Why Women Matter!

Planned Parenthood and how women can be affected by the outcome of the 2012 election.

By Thea Tragni

Women should be paying close attention to the upcoming election. Both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have drawn lines in the sand about how they feel about contraception, abortion, and specifically funding for Planned Parenthood.

No matter which side you are on most people can agree on the simple argument that all women should have access to basic care when it comes to their health. Right now the “Number of women who will have access to no-cost birth control under the Affordable Care Act is 47 Million.” According to the website http://www.womenarewatching.org/

Romney has stated in almost every debate that his first job, if elected president, will be to repeal the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare.” http://www.womenarewatching.org/ Says The “Number of women, men and young people served by Planned Parenthood every year. Is 3 Million.”

If either candidate cuts the funding for Planned Parenthood the repercussions for those three million people served could be great. Many women do not have a primary care doctor because they cannot afford health insurance. Preventative care is always less expensive than anything else.
