New Hope Baptist Church Working with Holt Foundation to Build Playground (Video)

To honor a Danbury athlete who died young and to help children at the Samuels' Early Learning Center, the Holt Foundation and the New Hope Baptist Church are working together to build a playground.

As the New Hope Baptist Church works to build a playground for children near its early learning center, Danbury's Holt Foundation is working side by side to help the church raise the $50,000 required.

Pastor The Rev. Ivan Pitts said he expects to have drawings for the park in the next week or two, and he thanked Greg and Jay Holt of the Holt Foundation for their support in this effort.

New Hope plans to name the park after Danny Holt, Greg's son and Jay's brother, a non-smoker, who died of lung cancer at age 23. Holt was the captain of the Danbury High School football team, and he graduated from DHS in 2005. He died on June 23, 2010.

The goal is to build the park and name it the Daniel Holt Memorial Playground. The Facebook page is here. The park will be located on a lot New Hope bought next to its church and cleared years ago. The delays were a question of priorities and money. New Hope completed a complete renovation and a new chapel at its facility on The Reverand Aaron B. Samuels Boulevard in 2010.

The Holt Foundation's goals are simple, said Greg Holt, who created it in honor of his son, Danny, who played football for Danbury High School. The foundation gives money to the Hord Foundation. It will send a child or two to the Campership Fund for summer camp. It will send a child or two (boy and girl) to play football with the Danbury Trojans or the Vikings.
