CACD Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway

More than 350 families picked up food baskets over the weekend.

They've called them food baskets for years, but what people receive are grocery bags of food they take home and turn into thanksgiving dinners.

Duracell creates boxes that are the whole deal, a pan for cooking a turkey, a gift card to buy a turkey, plus all the fixings. Cartus, Kimchuck, Praxair, Webster Bank, Shock Electric Pepin, St. Patrick's Church, plus individual donors and volunteers make this happen, said Elizabeth Garron, a CACD case manager, who was working Friday at Wooster Manor in Danbury. Stew Leonard's provided 100 turkeys to the CACD effort.

"We started in October," Garron said, "but we received the bulk of the donations in the last two weeks."

The food, including the turkies was yams, cranberry sauce, fruit, turkey gravey green beans, mandarin oranges, stove-top stuffing, stuffing and other random donations of oranges, apples and whole potatoes.
