The Newtowner team is working feverishly on a very special tribute issue dedicated to the people of Newtown, CT.

Find out what's happening in Danburywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

We think it would make a great feature story.

The Newtowner’s mission is to celebrate creative community and the life-affirming power of literature and the arts.

In light of the events of 12/14/12, this mission has never been more relevant and important.

Our upcoming issue, due for release in Spring 2013, will be a special tribute issue offered as a healing gift to the town of Newtown. By its very nature it will be a publication of historic significance.

Our aims for this issue are to:

•          Celebrate the people, beauty, culture, and community spirit of Newtown, CT

•          Commemorate the fallen

•          Recognize and give artistic expression to the grief we have experienced

•          Highlight the role of the arts in healing and the arts’ ability to nurture our humanity

•          Focus on our love, faith, and hope for the future.

•          Show that although this has been a defining moment in the life of our town, it does not define us

•          Remind us all of why we are so proud to call this town home.

Features in this issue will include:

•          Faces of Newtown – a photo essay of portraits of Newtown residents

•          Places of Newtown—a photo essay highlighting Newtown’s physical beauty

•          Letters of support, encouragement, and inspiration to the people of Newtown from high profile national writers, artists, and leaders

•          Reflections on “What Newtown Means to Me” by local parents, teachers, first responders, artists, writers, business owners, and community leaders

•          Essay by a Sandy Hook Elementary School parent

•          Poetry by Newtown High School students

•          Art by Newtown’s elementary school students

•          Photo essays on various healing arts projects such as From Broadway with Love, Newtown Healing Art Space, S.H.A.C.K., Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Ponies etc.

•          Discussion by Garner Correctional Institution inmates on the transformative power of the arts
