”Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”  This is one of the many clever quotes said by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.

This amazing man travels across the U.S. talking at colleges and universities about everything from the purpose of life to achieving happiness.  This October, the Dalai Lama will be visiting Western Connecticut State University to talk to the students and citizens of Danbury about developing compassion.

The Dalai Lama believes the purpose of life is to be happy.  Everyone wants to be happy from the moment they are born, without suffering.  Another topic he talks about in his teachings is how to achieve happiness.  He says, “The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion.”  Everyone needs to be loved, or they will not survive.  When you are deathly ill, gravely injured, or even just born, you need those who care for you and who love you to take care of you.  Of course nurses and doctors are there to take care of you medically, but who’s there for your emotional state and company?  Those who love you.

When His Holiness visits WCSU, he will be teaching about compassion.  You can come see him in a live video simulcast for free October 18th and 19th in the Ives Concert Hall, 181 White St.  Mark Langlois’ copywriting, advertising, and promotion class is promoting this once in a lifetime visit with blog posts everyday and twitter updates daily. “I try to treat whoever I meet as an old friend. This gives me a genuine feeling of happiness.  It is the practice of compassion.” - Dalai Lama
