Sports Dome Open House Open To All

Danbury Sports Dome plans three days of fun for its Open House.

The first thing to know about the Sports Dome in Danbury is Brazilian Soccer Legend Zico is scheduled to be on hand to sign people up for his fall soccer academy on Saturday.
Why do you have to know that?
Zico is huge. Zico (Arthur Antunes Coimbra) was named 1981 and 1983 Soccer Player of the Year. Pele, considered the greatest player ever, said Zico was the player who came closest to equalling him.
"He is scheduled to come to sign people up for the soccer academy," said Kirk Bamford, director of the Danbury Sports Dome, 25 Shelter Rock Lane.
Bamford said people who want to see the dome during next week's open house should wear sneakers. They will have the opportunity on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-17, to kick soccer balls into the net to beat the goalie, pitch to a target and check their speed on a radar gun, play volleyball, video games, use inflatables and other activities.
"We want people to come down and experience the facilities," Bamford said.
Numerous local sports teams and groups have already booked time this fall and next spring inside the dome.
The open house is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17.
