Superintendent Reassures Parents about Broadview Incident

Danbury Schools Superintendent Sal Pascarella sent out a reverse 911 call Tuesday to reassure parents about the knife incident that occurred Monday at Broadview Middle School as school dismissed for the year.

Danbury Police reported a student brought a knife to school with the intention of killing someone. The 12-year-old student was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder. He was also charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Pascarella said in his phone call to parents, a student brought a knife to school with the intent to harm people. Pascarella said when the staff realized the knife was there, they confronted the student and alerted police, and the knife was recovered before anyone was hurt.

"I can assure you that always your children are safe in our schools," Pascarella said. He said in the phone call the knife was discovered during dismissal, which seems to imply the student had the knife in school all day without using it.

According to the police report on the incident, when staff confronted the student about the knife, he fled and threw it out a bathroom window. When police questioned him, he told them where it was. He was held Monday night at a juvenile detention center in Bridgeport.
