Broadview Student Hit By Car on Padanaram

Danbury Police said a child was hit by a car after she got off a bus on Padanaram Road Wednesday.

A Broadview Middle School student was struck by a car Wednesday on Padanaram Road after she climbed out of a bus that was stopped with its lights flashing and its stop sign out.

Danbury police said the student, 12, was running across the road when she was hit by an on-coming car driving south on Padanaram Road. The child lost consciousness at the scene and was taken to Danbury Hospital.

Danbury Police charged Amanda Simon, 20, of Brick, NJ, with illegally passing a school bus following the accident. She stopped at the accident scene, police said.

Superintendent of Schools Sal Pascarella said the only person who did something wrong at the scene was the driver of the car. The bus driver acted properly, the student crossed properly, the police arrived at the accident almost immediately and the student was quickly taken to the hospital. Pascarella said the schools teach the students to carefully cross the road, but the driver of the car who hit the girl apparently got impatient.

The accident took place at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday about 100 feet north of the intersection of Padanaram Road and North Street.

“The on-coming car did not see the bus,” said Danbury Police Capt. Thomas Wendel. “The little girl was struck by the car.”
