NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK MARCH 6-13, 2011

“Securing Each Child’s Future – Making Disciples” is this year’s theme for National Lutheran Schools Week. Lutheran schools prepare children for their future in school and in life, as well as a life of service to their church, school, community, country and world. Throughout this week there will be many events and activities for the students to enjoy and grow in their understanding of what “Making Disciples” means. Each day different classes and staff members will be recognized for their various contributions to the school, and there will be servant events to show appreciation towards Immanuel Lutheran Church and the community.  We are very excited about what the week has in store.

On Monday, we will open Lutheran Schools Week with a chapel service at 9:00am. It will be “School Spirit Day” and students will be allowed to wear our school colors, blue and gold! The collection of non-perishable food items will begin, as we will be collecting them all week to donate to a local food pantry.

Tuesday is “Mismatch Day.” Students will be allowed to wear mismatched clothes to school. Our servant event of the day will be to create placemats and tablecloths to be used at the Dorothy Day soup kitchen.  There may even be a few mismatched surprises!

On Wednesday we will have our weekly chapel service at 8:35am and students are invited to wear their best clothes for “Dress Up Day.” Family members are invited to join us at Chapel for an Ash Wednesday service.

“Career Day” will be celebrated on Thursday.  Students should dress up as what they hope to become in the future.  We will also be completing our third servant event, in which students will be making bookmarks to give to parishioners of ILC during the weekend services.

Friday is “Pajama Day” and students can wear their pajamas to school! We will be having a school wide Read-A-Thon, and concluding NLSW with a Chapel Service at 2:00 p.m.  Students will be sharing some of their creations from the week, and presenting to their peers what “Making Disciples” means to them.  We hope you will be able to join us for this special Chapel Service.

Finally, Sunday will be the closing worship service at 10:45am. This is a mandatory attendance day for students. Students will be performing during this service and should arrive no later than 10:15am to practice. Parents, please plan to stay in the sanctuary with your children during this 20 minute rehearsal.
