NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK

“Securing Each Child’s Future – Equipped” is this year’s theme for National Lutheran Schools Week. Lutheran schools prepare children for their future in school and in life, as well as a life of service to their church, school, community, country and world. Throughout this week there will be many events and activities for the students to enjoy and grow in their understanding of what “Equipped” means. Each day there will be servant events which explain ways we are equipping our students to be strong Christian citizens.  We are very excited about what the week has in store.

On Sunday we will open Lutheran Schools Week with a worship service at 10:45am. This is a mandatory attendance day for students. Students will be singing during this service and should arrive no later than 10:15am to practice. Parents, please plan to stay in the sanctuary with your children during this 20 minute rehearsal.  Remember to turn your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night!

On Monday, we will start our school week off with a chapel service at 9:00am. It will be “PJ Day” and students can wear their pajamas to school!  For safety reasons, slippers are not allowed.  We will begin our first service project by collecting baby items and school supplies for the Jericho Partnership.

Tuesday is “Country Pride Day.” As part of our year long theme, “We are all one in Christ Jesus”, students may dress in colors or outfits from their family culture. Our servant event of the day will be to create Bookmark Buddies to give to their reading buddies on Friday.

We will start Wednesday off with a special “Goodies with Grandparents” breakfast at 7:30am.  Then the 3rd Grade will lead our weekly chapel service at 8:35am. Students are welcome to wear their best clothes for “Super Dress-Up Day.” All family members are invited to join us at Chapel.

“Spirit Day” will be celebrated on Thursday.  Students should wear either their special screen printed shirt or any blue and/or gold clothing to show their school spirit.  The entire student body (PKF through 8th Grade) will enjoy a few hours of duckpin bowling at Danbury Duckpin Lanes from 12-2pm and a pizza lunch from Stew Leonard’s.  Please be sure to have your child wear sneakers on this day.

Friday is a reading celebration!  Students may dress up as their favorite storybook character for “Character Day”!  Students will get together to read to each other in the afternoon, and then the week will conclude with a chapel service at 2:00 p.m.  Students will be presenting the items that they collected during the week to the Jericho Partnership.  Once again, all family members are invited to join us for this special chapel service.

We hope you will be able to join us for some of these exciting events, and look forward to sharing and celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week with you!
