Danbury's Top Dance Studio is Decided

Arthur Murray has a lead in the poll, but that doesn't give it the contest.

The poll numbers are in, and the earns 10 points by being the top poll finisher. Arthur Murray had 30 votes or 39 percent of the total. The first place finisher gets 10 points in the contest.

The second place finisher is, which was right on Arthur Murray's heels with 27 votes or 35 percent of the total. That gives A Common Ground eight points in the contest.

Our third place finisher is , which earned 10 votes or 13 percent of the total. That gives Lori six points in the contest.

The poll results are only one part of the contest. Another important factor is customer reviews of a business.

Recent events must be taken into account. A Common Ground, our second place poll finisher has a five-star review by Kate Talbot. Here it is, "

My daughter and I love this dance studio. Jill, the owner, is very involved and caring. She runs a wide variety of programs from 3 year old ballet through to adult dance and fitness classes. My 4 year old has enjoyed both ballet and tap lessons, and we plan to keep her at this studio for years to come. Classes are relaxed, teachers are good at making things fun, while ensuring students learn and develop skills. Can't wait for the recital!"

That gives A Common Ground 10 points to add to its 8-point second place finish. With a total of 18 points, A Common Ground is ahead of Arthur Murray's total of 10 points.

Our third place poll finisher, Lori's Center Stage Dance Studio has no reviews, leaving it with six points.

The fourth place poll finisher, had five votes or 6 percent of the total, but again, no reviews. If it had a review, it would have ended up with 16 points and a third-place finish.

When the dust settled, A Common Ground is crowned the contest winner with 18 points, ahead of Arthur Murray's 10 and Lori's Center Stage with six.

g, Let's throw out some more numbers... Here is a site to look at:Read More http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/PDF/dgm/report1/basiccon.pdf This is the Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Grants Management spreadsheet. It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

Good afternoon Jessica, Danbury plans to spend approximately $114,000,000 on teaching staff salaryRead More and benefits for the next school year per the school budget here - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/bbadmin/Budget/2012-2013%20budget.pdf the total budget is $121,000,000. Teachers, administrators, contracted professionals, staff enrichment programs, staff insurance, and the rest comprise about 95% of the school system budget. See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
