Danbury Head Start Funding Questioned (Video)

This video focuses on the discussion of Head Start funding during Tuesday's Board of Education meeting. This video was shot by Danbury's John Neumuller, who will air the entire meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday on Comcast Cable channel 23.

The city of Danbury is paying more than twice what the state is paying for the Head Start program, and this situation was raised and questioned by Danbury member Mary Teicholtz at Tuesday's meeting.

Children are not "bused" from Laural Gardens to Mill Ridge for Head Start. Head Start receives no busing services at all from the city or anyone else. I am surprised nobody at that table made that clear. All students in Head Start are driven to school by their parents. If the all day program at Laural Gardens if full, the students would attend school at the Mill Ridge program. If anyone feels the cost of the hs program is high, imagine the cost of ESL kindergarten teachers, multiple teachers, would be to the budget and tax payers. These teachers would be needed teach English to the 200 plus children who would be coming into the public school not speaking English because they no longer had the benefit of Head Start to have learned it at the preschool level.
