Reality Check When BOE Cuts Paraprofessionals From Classrooms

Teachers reveal what happens when they're teaching 20 young students without a paraprofessional. This video was shot by Danbury's John Neumuller, who will air the entire meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday on Comcast.

The meeting shows the board approved its budget 6-4. Next year's budget is $115,795,291. Two teachers asked the board to return paraprofessionals to the early grades. They don't paint a pretty picture of classroom life, one teacher, 20 students.

Of course Abbott Tech and Immaculate might have higher test scores. I would bet that they don't have to deal with students or parents of children who don't want to be in school, but are forced to go. These students will never test well so it looks bad on the students who do well and want to be there. For some of us families, Immaculate isn't an option.

Abbott Tech and Immaculate don't spend money on sports? Are their sports free? I wonder how they do that? Could you look into it and tell us how Abbott Tech operates their football team for free, or how Immaculate operates their lacrosse team with no money being spent. I think DHS would love to know! And while you are looking into providing information, could you let us know the name of the class that teaches the football team how to get steroids and die by 25....because my son is on the football team, and he must not know about that class, because he knows nothing about steroids beyond the dangers he learned while in health class. You are just a nasty sports hater, most likely a result of being picked last for dodge ball every time when you were young. The Danbury school system needs a LOT of work, and a lot of help. Much more help than the money from sports or head start can provide and paraprofessionals in kindergarten is not the fix all answer. It's going to take MUCH more than that!
