Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has President Barack Obama beat when it comes to fundraising in Connecticut – at least for now.
Polls show that Obama maintains a lead in Connecticut, and a fundraiser could push Obama ahead when it comes to money raised in the state.
Romney raised $4.8 million from Connecticut residents so far compared to Obama’s $2.8 million, according to the Associated Press. A on Monday could net Obama $2 million when the president meets with Hollywood celebrities and donors willing to shell out $35,000.
Nationally, Romney outraised Obama by $101 million to $75 million, according to the LA Times.
A June poll from Quinnipiac University shows Obama leading Romney by a 50 - 38 margin. George H.W. Bush in 1988 was the last Republican candidate to win the state.
Correction: The last Republican to win Connecticut was incorrectly identified as Ronald Reagan.
