In an interview with the Associated Press, state Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor provided some details about Connecticut's plan to create a system to help parents choose quality day care and early childhood education centers for their children.
is a part of Gov. Malloy's public education bill, which was , and will grade providers statewide on the education they offer. The goal of the system, Pryor said, is also designed to "enable these providers to ratchet up their level of quality."
Pryor added that the system will be implemented in the fall and will be ramped up over the next several years. The state will also begin surveying Connecticut's School Readiness Councils to determine which providers are prepared to accept the 1,000 new early childhood education slots that the new law provides.
The new law also allows professional development funding for early childhood educators, as well as funding for computer hardware and software.
