Danbury Shifts Halloween to Sunday

Danbury officials are urging city residents to postpone trick or treating until Sunday to protect children from the dangers of downed wires and dark streets.

Hold off trick or treating until Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, urges Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton.

"We have too many downed wires, and we don't want to do anything to put Danbury children at risk," Boughton said. "I'm asking that people postpone trick or treating until Sunday."

Boughton said the city and CL&P are working on the downed trees and wires, but there is no guarantee they will all be cleared by Sunday. That's why he is asking people to trick or treat from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"There should be enough light for people to see and avoid wires," Boughton said. "We may not have everything cleared up by then."

This is the second year in a row that Danbury postponed Halloween. Last year the city suffered both tropical storm Irene and then a snow storm that complicated the downed wire problem with a covering of snow.
