Triangle Street Fire Not Accidential, Under Investigation

The Danbury Fire Department gave police the investigation into Thursday's condominium fire after deciding it wasn't accidental.

The fire in Building A of the Lions Condominium, 126 Triangle St., broke out in a basement about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Fire Chief Geoffrey Herald said the fire that left as many as 15 people homeless wasn't accidental, but the fire department had not determined the cause yet. He declined to say it was caused by arson, but said it remains under investigation.

"There was no damage to the living areas," Herald said. "There were no injuries and it didn't spread beyond the basement. The smoke traveled through the common areas and hallways."

Herald said the fire started in a storage area under the condominium, and the fire destroyed sewage lines. Until they are fixed or replaced, no one can live there. Herald said the housing units themselves suffered some smoke damage, but little or no fire damage.
