State Police Make 37-Pound Pot Bust in Danbury

The marijuana was reportedly discovered after police pulled the suspect over for speeding.

Speeding and the smell of marijuana reportedly led Connecticut State Police to a major drug bust in Danbury on Monday.

Police siezed more than 37 pounds of marijuana from a 2012 Ford Focus they said was being driven by William J. Servos, 28, of 158 Newington Road in West Hartford. Servos was allegedly traveling 82 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone on I-84 eastbound near exit 2 when Trooper Cassavechia spotted him.

Cassavechia, a Trooper based out of Troop A in Southbury, caught up to the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 7 southbound near the Danbury Mall.

Cassavechia reportedly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle upon approaching it. A search of the vehicle was conducted and Cassavechia located a small amount of marijuana in a bag on the floor near the passenger’s side, state police said.

Cassavechia continued the search and reportedly located two large suitcases in the passenger’s compartment of the vehicle. The suitcases contained a total of 37.6 pounds of marijuana, police said.

Servos was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana greater than 1 Kilo, possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 1.

Doing more than 25 miles over the speed limit while trafficking commercial quantities of illicit substances. Can't fix stupid.

The larger questions for Mr. Servos to answer are "Where were you coming from and where are you going?"
