Parents Using Electric Dog Collar Charged with Abuse

Danbury Police charged a Kohanza Street couple with two counts of risk of injury to a minor each for punishing a child with an electric dog collar.

Danbury Police and employees of the state Department of Children and Families began their investigation after an employee of Danbury Public Schools reported the suspected abuse on Oct. 24.

Danbury Police received arrest warrants on Tuesday charging Eduardo Montanez, 43, Kohanza Street, Danbury, with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault and cruelty to persons. he was held on a $250,000 bond.

Police charged Paula Montanez, 34, of Kohanza Street, Danbury, with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and conspiracy to commit cruelty to persons. Paula Montanez was held on a $200,000 bond.

The case is scheduled to be continued in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 30.
