Motorist, Police Save Child Wandering White Street Monday Night

A passing motorist saw a young child, 4, walking alone on the White Street sidewalk at 10:23 p.m. Monday, and called the police. The temperature was in the single digits with a below-zero wind chill factor. The child was walking toward the busy Wildman and White streets intersection. The child waited with the driver until police arrived. The child led police to her home, where they tried to find her mother, Maritza Vizhco, 23. Police left a note saying the child was with the police and immediately call them. The child was taken to police headquarters where the child stayed until representatives of the state Department of Children and Family arrived. A family member was identified and the child was turned over to the family member.
Maritza Vizhco contacted the Danbury Police Department at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in response to the note left at the scene.  Maritiz Vizhco arrived at Danbury Police Headquarters at 2 p.m.  She was taken into custody and charged with risk of injury to a minor.  She was held on a $5000 bond.

This information was provided by the Danbury Police Department. A person charged with a crime is innocent until having been convicted in court.
