Lightning Strikes Chimney of Danbury Home

No injuries are being reported but the chimney was knocked to pieces, a fire official says.

 

An touched down in Danbury tonight when lightning struck a house on East Hayestown Road.

A small fire erupted in the attic but was quickly extinguished by the before it could spread. Firefighters are still on scene, including the fire marshal who is awaiting the arrival of a city building official to assess the structural damage to the house.

According to Assistant Chief Charly Slagle, when the lightning struck the chimney it broke into pieces and fell onto the roof before crashing to the ground.

“Part of the chimney is laying on the front walk,” Slagle said.

He said he wasn't sure if the residents were home at the time. The incident was reported by a neighbor at about 5 p.m.
