Danbury Police: Robbery, DUI

Luis Lopez, 45, Chestnut Street, Danbury, was charged with third-degree robbery and criminal mischief at 8:15 a.m. Saturday. Police said they received a call about a motor vehicle accident on White Street, and when they showed up, they were flagged down by Lopez, who said someone smashed the window of his car. Lopez identified the man who struck his car, and the story evolved. Police said Lopez and a group of men were playing cards Friday night into Saturday morning. Early Saturday morning, Lopez reached into a man's pocket and took $200 in cash and an Iphone, police said. The men fought, and police said Lopez smashed the Iphone on the ground. Someone smashed the window of his car. Police charged Lopez after the incident with third-degree robbery and criminal mischief. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

In an unrelated case, Danbury Police charged Neangrith Chan, 53, Hoyt Street, Danbury, with driving under the influence and following too closely. Police said Chan was driving on Garamella toward Balmforth when he ran his car into the back of the car in front of him. He said he tried to stop but wasn't able to in time. Police said he had bloodshot eyes, he smelled of alcohol and he had trouble talking. He failed the field sobriety tests and was held on a $5,000 bond.

Danbury Police released this information. A person charged with a crime is innocent until having been convicted in court.
