Danbury Police Reports: Negligent Homicide, Drug Bust

Other recent arrests include credit card theft, assaults, DUIs and reckless endangerment.


John Colonnese, 54, of Lexington, N.C., turned himself in at on July 11 on a charge of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle.

The charge stems from a June 7 incident in front of , according to police.

Colonnese was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is due in court on July 20.

Drug Bust

Following up on complaints of illegal drug activity on Main Street and Park Place, Danbury Police arrested two city men July 16 on multiple drug-related charges.

Andres Torres, 46, was charged with sale of narcotics and sale of narcotics near a school. He was held on a $5,000 bond.

Steven Braga, 30, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics near a school and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $2,500.

According to police, bike patrol officers observed Braga engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction with Torres. The drug tested positive for heroin, police said. Braga reportedly attempted to flee and officers had to wrestle him to ground.

Credit Card Theft

Christine Early, 39, of New Fairfield, was arrested at 11:26 a.m. on July 11 on charges of attempted third-degree larceny, attempted illegal use of a a credit card, criminal impersonation, theft of a credit card, and identity theft.

Police said she was held on a $50,000 bond.

Reckless Endangerment

A Danbury woman who police said is five-months pregnant was arrested after she allegedly got in a fight with her significant other because he was upset that she was drinking beer.

Isabel Ortega, 30, was arrested at 8:40 p.m. on July 14 on charges of reckless endangerment, breach of peace and interfering with the duties of an officer (she reportedly wouldn't tell police her real name). Ortega was also charged with criminal mischief, breach of peace and third-degree assault in relation to a separate incident for which there was an active warrant against her.

She was held on a $10,000 bond.

Other Arrests

Frank A. Botex, 31, of Danbury, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. on July 13 on charges of second-degree strangulation and disorderly conduct in relation to a domestic disturbance. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was due in court on July 13.

Fernando Freitas, 23, of Danbury, was arrested on charges of interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct at 2:07 a.m. on July 14. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 25.

Kevin Worthington, 22, of Danbury, was arrested at 2:45 a.m. on July 14 on charges of third-degree assault and breach of peace. He was held on a $1,000 bond.

Ruth Dunn, 36, of Danbury, was arrested at 12:26 p.m. on July 14 on charges of operating under the influence and reckless driving. Her bond was set at $2,500.

Brian Anderson, 31, of Danbury, was arrested at 4:21 p.m. on July 14 on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $500 bond and was due in court on July 16.

Carlos Paulino Corondes, 52, of Danbury, was arrested at 4:22 p.m. on July 13 on charges of third-degree criminal mischeief, breach of peace, and third-degree assault. He was held on a $10,000 bond.

Jason Joyner, 32, who police said lives on the city streets, was arrested at 3:28 p.m. on July 15 on charges of breach of peace and interfering with an officer. His bond was set at $2,500.

William Mendez, 45, of Danbury, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. on July 15 on a charge of DUI. He was released on a $500 bond.

Erlon Goncalves, of Danbury, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. on July 16 on charges of DUI, evading responsibility, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and failure to have an insurance card. He was held on a $2,500 bond.

Brien McCarthy, 25, of Danbury, was arrested at 12:59 a.m. on July 16 on two counts of breach of peace. He was held on a $500 bond.

It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year ....
