Danbury Police: Assault, Possession, Probation, Protective Order, Interfering

The following information was provided by the Danbury Police Department. A person charged with a crime is innocent until having been convicted in court.

The reported that Devan Casey, 21, of Highland Circle, Naugatuck was charged with two counts of illegal possession of drugs or alcohol and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charge was made at about 6:45 p.m. Friday. Casey was held on a $50,000 bond. At the same time and place, Casey was charged with five counts of violation of probation. He was held on a $50,000 bond.

In a separate incident, Christiana Yunckes, 36, of Tuttle Road, Woodbury, was charged with two counts of criminal violation of a protective order. Danbury Police said the incident happened at about 1 a.m. on Saturday. Yunckes was released on a $1,000 bond for court Tuesday.

Danbury Police charged Alphonso Gordon, 22, of Woodview Drive, Brookfield, with interfering with the police, assault on a police officer, breach of peace and disorderly conduct at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Gordon was held a $75,000 bond.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, Danbury Police charged Giovani Canales, 20, of Eden Drive, Danbury, with breach of the peace and second-degree assault. Canales was held on a $25,000 bond.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, Yadiel Vega, 19, of Franklin Street, Danbury, was charged with breach of the peace and interfering with a police officer. Vega was held on a $5,000 bond.

At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Wilson Naulaquari, 31, of Cook Street, Danbury, was held on charges of disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Naulaquari was held on a $5,000 bond.

At about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Danbury Police charged Jhonny Nieves, 25, of Stone Street, Danbury, with driving under the influence, driving with a broken light, disregarding the signal of an officer, unsafe backing, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance. Police held Nieves on a $1,500 bond.

Danbury Police charged Michael Fitzsimmons, 18, of Avalon Lake Road, Danbury, with possession of alcohol by a minor, using a motor vehicle without the owner's permission, driving after drinking by a minor, failure to obey a stop sign, reckless driving, interfering with a police officer and other motor vehicle offences. Fitzsimmons was held on a $2,500 bond.

It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
