Danbury Police Log: Engaging in Pursuit, DUI, DUI, Narcotics

The following information was provided by the Danbury Police Department. A person charged with a crime is not guilty until having been convicted in court.

Danbury Police attempted to pull over a car on White Street Saturday at 4:21 p.m., when a check revealed the license plate didn't belong on the car. Police said the driver, Edwardo Cuevas, 35, did not pull over, but sped up and took a series of quick turns onto National Place, Independence Way, Delay Street, Liberty, and Pahquioque Avenue. Police broke off pursuit when the driver turned onto Comstock going the wrong way on a one-way street. Minutes later police reported the car having a narrow miss with another car near Center Street, where the driver abandoned the car. Police found Cuevas walking on Cottage street. Police said he had in his pocket 14 Suboxone pills, a narcotic. Police charged him with driving an unregistered automobile, misuse of a license plate, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, driving without insurance, engaging in pursuit and failure to keep narcotics in their original container. Cuevas was held on a $25,000 bond for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court Monday.

Danbury Police charged Ramon Monroig, 35, of Kayview Avenue, Bethel, with driving under the influence, driving without lights, failure to obey an officer's signal and driving with a suspended license at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said an officer on patrol saw Monroig driving without his lights on, and pulled him over. Police said Monroig smelled of alcohol, and he then failed a field sobriety test. He was released on a $5,000 bond for a scheduled appearance in Danbury Superior Court on April 9.

charged Roberto Bonilla, 36, of Balmforth Avenue, Danbury, with failure to drive right and driving under the influence. Police said they saw Bonilla drive into a parked car. He was stopped and he smelled of alcohol. He failed a field sobriety test. He was released on a $5,000 bond for a scheduled appearance in Danbury Superior Court on April 11.

Danbury Police charged Antonio Veiga, 40, of Hausman Street, Danbury, with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics. He was held on a $2,500 bond for those charges. In a separate charge, Veiga was charged with possession of marijuana.
