Danbury Police: Electricity Scam, Present Theft

Danbury Police issued the following press release warning people that callers are trying to steal credit card or checking account information over the phone, and packages left in mailboxes or on the porch are frequently stolen at this time of year.

The following press release was issued Friday morning by the Danbury Police Department.

Danbury Police are warning residents of a electricity scam in the city. The female caller calls your phone number and knows your name. They say they are from your electric company and that your  account is delinquent and unless it is paid immediately your service would be shutoff the next morning. They request your credit card number or checking account  number. We urge residents to not give out their checking or credit card account numbers to unknown people and to be aware of unusual to good to be true offers  this holiday season.

Also at this time of year, theft from mailboxes or porches are not uncommon and having a PO Box or "Signature Required Delivery" can help reduce those incidents.
