Danbury Man Charged More Than a Dozen Times

Robert Brown of Jeanette Street, charged this summer and fall with burglaries in Danbury and Brookfield, was extradited back to Connecticut Monday.

Robert Brown, 40, of Jeanette Street, was charged at 11:37 p.m. Monday with being a fugitive from justice and on that charge he was held on a $100,000 bond. Brown faces about 25 charges of burglary, larceny, criminal mischief, failure to appear in court and conspiracy to commit some of these crimes.

Brown was charged with crimes in August twice, in September once, and in October twice. The crimes were typically burglary, larceny and criminal mischief. For the complete list, check this PDF.

As part of his arrest Monday, Brown was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, failure to appear and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on those charges with a $25,000 bond.

In addition to those charges, he was charged with six counts of first-degree failure to appear. He was charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree larceny. He was held on a $50,000 bond for the first six charges and another $60,000 on the second two charges.

In addition to those, Brown was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and one count of third-degree burglary. He was held on two $25,000 bonds for those charges.

In addition to those charges, Brown was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree failure to appear, third-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card. He was held on two $35,000 bonds for those charges.

Brown was scheduled to be arraigned on these charges in Danbury Superior Court on Tuesday.

It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
