Danbury Hospital Surgeon Arrested For Damaging Statue of Virgin Mary

Patrick Broderick, of New Fairfield, was arrested in Italy after he reportedly broke a finger off a 600-year-old statue.

A Danbury Hospital surgeon has been arrested for breaking the pinky finger off a priceless statue of the Virgin Mary in Italy.

The man, Patrick Broderick, 55, of New Fairfield, was reportedly comparing his finger to that of a sculpture at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, when he broke the statue’s finger, according to an article on the Daily Mail

Broderick is the chairman of emergency medicine department at Danbury Hospital. But Andrea Rynn, Danbury Hospital spokeswoman, said she doesn't yet know if the Hospital's physician with the name Broderick is on vacation or is in Florence.

The Daily Mail article says that the incident has "sparked outrage in Florence." The statue dates back to the 14th or 15th century.
