Posted by Paula Antolini
A fire broke out in the Goldens Bridge fire house this morning, February 24, 2014, at 9:45 a.m. The the two-story brick structure at 254 Waccabuc Road (Route 138) had a roof collapse and much damage. The flames soon consumed the entire east side of the firehouse.
In 30-degree temperatures firefighters removed firetrucks from the building but one man suffered smoke inhalation in the process and was taken to the hospital. The fire is thought to have started in the southeast corner of the second floor of the building. The Fire Department lost a rescue truck and two SUV's, which is three of its seven pieces of apparatus. Other fire companies that responded quickly to the alarm were from Katonah, Somers, South Salem, Croton Falls, Bedford Hills, Brewster, and Vista. Part of Route 138 was shut down. (Reported Frank Becerra of the Journal News)
Two men were inside the firehouse when one man smelled smoke and heard and explosion, reports Emily Smith of CBSNewsNY. Smith also reported that there were smoke detectors but the batteries were dead. CBSNewsNY also reports "the cause of the fire is not yet known."
