Warren E. Marble, age 89 of Danbury, passed away peacefully on March 9 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Florence (Ziallas) Marble.
Warren was born in Brockton, MA, February 2, 1923, son of the late Bradford and Gladys (Staples) Marble. He attended schools in Ashland, MA and Clarkson College at Potsdam, NY.
A veteran of World War II, he attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class in the U. S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Foss, a Destroyer Escort, in the oceans of the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. He survived two separate torpedo attacks while on convoy duty in the North Atlantic.
He was employed by various electrical contractors in the Connecticut area and was the President of Local # 525 I.B.E.W. While employed at Danbury Hospital, he was a founder and President of Connecticut Hospital Engineering Society, a founder and President of the New England Hospital Engineering Society, and a founder and President of the Western Connecticut Plant Engineers Society. He was also past chairman of the Danbury Charter Revision Commission. Most of his career was spent as Vice President of Engineering at Danbury Hospital until he retired in 1988 after 30 years.
He was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury and a past President of the Parish Council.
Even after retirement, Warren’s passion for engineering never waned. He enjoyed visiting construction sites and watching the expansion of Danbury Hospital. He was a great storyteller and loved to make others smile. He espoused the philosophy of positive thinking and the importance of expressing appreciation and love. He was an avid fan of UConn Women’s basketball, bird watching, and spending time with family.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Florence, he is survived by four daughters,
Patricia Rockwell Maxwell and husband, George Maxwell of Newtown,
Louise Marble and partner, Lisa Antel of Bridgewater, CT,
Carol Arconti and husband, Robert of Danbury; and
Susan Glen and husband, John Glen of Warrenton, OR;
A brother, Chester B. Marble of Nashua, New Hampshire;
Five cherished grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Kloss and staff at the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, and to dear friend and caregiver, Mary Trotta, for their compassionate loving care.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd. (Rte. 39N), Danbury with the Rev. Peter Karloutsos officiating.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury with military honors.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Monday, March 12, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Trisagion Prayer Service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.
