Shirley Ann Lollie, 73

October 15, 1939 - January 22, 2013

Shirley Ann (Onorato) Lollie, 73, of Danbury, loving wife of 50 years to Robert L. Lollie, Sr., died on Tuesday, January 22 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on October 15, 1939 in New Milford, daughter of the late Salvatore and Catherine (Barry) Onorato.

Shirley was a loving homemaker who raised her 6 children. She treasured her children and grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed shopping and vacations in Rhode Island. She was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother who devoted herself to her family.

In addition to her husband, Retired Detective Robert L. Lollie, Sr. of the Danbury Police Dept., Shirley will be sadly missed by her children, Francis Lollie and his wife Rebecca, Catherine Adams, Karen Lollie, Barbara Tucker and her husband Anthony, Robert L. Lollie, Jr. and Marianne Flanagan and her husband Charles; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Adam Andrew and Chad Lollie, Richard Adams and his wife Gina, Michelle Tucker, Victoria, Katie, Charlie and Hunter Flanagan; her Aunt Mary Wojciechowski of New Milford as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Onorato.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 25 at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 24 at Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury.

It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
