Obituary: William G. Wilson, Sr., formerly of Ridgefield and Danbury

William G. Wilson, Sr., 86, of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, husband of the late Elinor (Rafferty) Wilson died on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born in Hoboken, NJ, May 4, 1927, one of ten children to John and Susan (Connors) Wilson. Raised in Weehawken, NJ, he attended local schools and graduated from Weehawken High School.
A retired Teamster Truck Drive with Local #560 of Kearney, NJ, Mr. Wilson was a self-employed trucker and later was employed as a teamster with Ward Trucking Co., the Coco-Cola Bottling Co. and Roadway.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
A resident of Ridgefield and Danbury since 1969 coming from New Jersey, he was a former baseball coach of the Ridgefield Senior Babe Ruth and Babe Ruth baseball teams.
He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, loved to watch children and sports, was a NY Yankee fan and had a very strong passion for his country.
He was a member of St. Joseph Parish of Danbury.
Mr. Wilson is survived by a daughter, Margaret M. Wilson of Bethel; three sons, Billy Wilson and his wife, Carol Ann of Fairfield, CT, John Wilson and his wife, Terry and Tom Wilson and his wife, Kim all of Danbury; four grandchildren, Christopher, Thomas and his wife, Melinda, Ryan and Michael; a great granddaughter, Layla and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, Danbury.
Interment will take place at the direction of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
