Obituary: Mary Catherine (Beck) Antous died Nov. 12, 2013

Mary Catherine (Beck) Antous, 91, of Danbury, died Tuesday November 12, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August 7, 1922 in Danbury, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Showah) Beck. Mary attended Danbury Public Schools. She worked for the Defense Dept. and was considered a Rosy the Riveter. Mary helped build anti-aircraft guns in Bridgeport for the WWII effort. She also worked for the Barden Corp., Chuck’s Steak House, and Rich’s Diner. Mary was also a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, Danbury, the Lebanon American Ladies Auxiliary and was also a former member of the Garden Club. She ran Aunt Mary’s Booth at the Middle Eastern Festival and raised thousands of dollars for her church. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, parishioner, cook, and fine seamstress.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Richard J. Antous Sr., her son Rich J. Antous Jr., both of Danbury, several god children who affectionately called her “Aptoo” (Godmother), and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, angel, friend and caregiver Najlah Antous. Mary was predeceased by her brother George Beck and her sister Ann (Beck) Attick.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Antous will be held Monday November 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 125 Kohanza St., Danbury. Committal service and final resting place will be in Wooster Cemetery, 20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury. Relatives and friends may call at St. George Church, Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
