Obituary: Louis A. Kaufmann

Louis A. Kaufmann, 91, of Danbury, CT died Friday August 9, 2013, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Caroline (Grouse) Kaufmann.

Mr. Kaufmann was born March 22, 1922 in Danbury, son of the late John and Teresa (Ihloff) Kaufmann. He was a sergeant in the US Army during WWII with the 2nd Battalion, 544 Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment, stationed in New Guinea, Northern Solomon’s and Luzon. Mr. Kaufmann was a lifelong resident of Danbury and was employed as a machinist by several area manufactures until retiring at age 72.

He was a 67 year active member of Union Masonic Lodge #40 and Stellar Lodge #55 Order of Eastern Star, holding many offices, including that of Past Master, Past District Deputy, and Past Patron. He was also a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honour and the Shriners.

Mr. Kaufmann is survived by four daughters; Diane Britton and her husband Tom of Bethel, Deborah Kaufmann and Denise Kaufmann both of Danbury and Drucilla Gravino and her husband Gerard of Somer, NY, two grandchildren; Aaron Britton and his wife Meredith and Bethany Cordeiro and her husband Donny, two great grandchildren, Madeline and Juliette Britton. He also leaves a son and his family. Mr. Kaufmann is predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral Service will be held in the Hull Funeral Home 60 Division St., Danbury, on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Family will receive friends in the Hull Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT, 07810.
