Obituary: Kenneth Edward Stilson, Sr.

Kenneth Edward Stilson, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Danbury on July 12, 2013. 

Kenneth was born at his family's home on Read Street in New Haven, CT on January 7, 1925, the son of Edward Stilson and Katheryn (Lovelace) Stilson. 

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marion (Skelly) Stilson. He is survived by a sister Audrey Batista and her husband Rocco of Winsted, sons Kenneth E. Stilson, Jr. and his wife Althea of Sherman, Devin T. Stilson and his wife Marianne of Goshen, daughters Heather Bednar and her husband John of Woodbury and Cynthia Stilson-Shook and her husband Terry of Warren. "Pop" was a beloved grandfather to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

Kenneth was a 1942 graduate of New Haven High School and played the trumpet professionally before and after his graduation. He was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre with the 17th Radio Security Section of the 7th Air Force. 

After the war, Kenneth returned to Connecticut and worked for over forty years for the Southern New England Telephone Company. Following his retirement from the telephone company, he proudly served as a judicial marshal in the Danbury courthouse from 1994 until 2007 when an injury forced his second retirement. Attending night school, he obtained an Associate's degree in 1971 and his Bachelor's degree from UNH in 1981. His hobbies included music, beekeeping, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Danbury where he and his wife were married in 1948. 
Kenneth's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Braulia and Wilson Guzman and the members of their family who provided Dad with such loving care and comfort in his last years. Your love for Dad was truly appreciated. 
There are no calling hours. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Danbury on Monday, July 15th at 10:00am. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
