Obituary: Mother of Danbury State Rep. Dies

Harriet Rickerby Raynor, mother of state Rep. Janice R. Giegler, dies at 87.

Harriet Rickerby Raynor, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Round Pound, Maine.

Raynor was born in Maspeth, New York, September 21, 1924, daughter of the late Emilie Florence Mooers and Alfred Richard Rickerby and was the wife of Russell Clinton Raynor.

In December, she and her husband celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

After graduating from Hempstead High School in New York in 1942, she was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a business office representative.  While her husband was attending Tri State College in Angola, Indiana, she was the secretary to the Treasurer of the college.  She was later employed by Olin Chemicals in Stamford, as an Executive Secretary before leaving in 1972 to join her husband in his business world travels for 15 years.

Before moving to Maine in 1987, she and her husband Russell and their two children resided in South Salem, NY for 30 years where she was active in the PTA, South Salem Presbyterian Church and as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts.  She also served as the Neighborhood Chairman and the Registrar for the Taconic Girl Scout Council.

After retiring to Round Pound, along with enjoying the scenic views of Muscongus Bay and Louds Island from their home, their winter travels brought them to southwest Florida where they enjoyed family and friends in Boca Grande, Florida.

She spent much of her time enjoying tennis and her membership at the CLC YMCA in Damariscotta, Maine.  She was also a member of the Helping Hands in Round Pound, and the Miles Memorial Hospital League where she participated in the annual rummage sale.

In addition to her husband, Russ and daughter, State Rep. Janice Raynor Giegler, and her husband, Tamas of Danbury, she is survived by a son, Kenneth Clinton Raynor and his wife Anne of Kennebunkport, Maine and her two grandsons, Jeffrey Russell Giegler and Kyle Clinton Raynor.  She is also survived by her two sisters, Mabel R. Confer of Ballwin, Missouri and Ruth Emilie Tews of Chandler, Arizona.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date in Maine.

Interment will take place in Chamberlain Cemetery, Round Pound, Maine.
