Obituary: Capt. Thomas Wendel

Capt. Thomas P. Wendel, 58, of Brookfield, passed away at his home July 5, 2013. He was the son of the late William and Mary Wendel (Gribben). Thomas was born in the Bronx, New York, on November 23, 1954.

Thomas was a Danbury Police officer for over 30 years, recently retiring as Captain. During his career Thomas worked in many different areas including the S.W.A.T Team, and truly loved his work and helping the City of Danbury. Thomas was an avid runner and loved to follow his favorite musicians around the country. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the CT Special Olympics and their “Torch Run”. He will be remembered as a free spirited and generous man who loved his family above all else.
Thomas is survived by his children, one son Ian Wendel, one daughter Devon Wendel, one brother Ted Wendel and his wife Joanne, one sister Barbara McIlrath and her husband Joe, also by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 10 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home 247 White St. Danbury. Burial is at the convenience of the family.
