Dulce Marie Showah - Obituary

Dulce Marie Showah, age 82, of Danbury, daughter of the late George and Mercedes Nassra, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Showah was born in Havana, Cuba in 1929 and came to the U.S. in 1947, first living in Bridgeport with her Aunt Sadika and Uncle John Zamary and their children. She worked at the Barden Corp. of Danbury in the early 1950s until she became a mom; the job she loved best.

Caring for her daughters and her grandchildren was something that came naturally to her. She always had an unconditional love and support for her family and friends. Her house was often a gathering place where friends and family met and always felt welcome. Mrs. Showah was a gourmet cook and food was something she shared with everyone.  She was a friend to the environment well before it was commonplace. She taught her family how to value others instead of material things. She enjoyed simple pleasures, listening to music, going to plays and concerts, and creating her gardens.  Mrs. Showah lived through her faith in God and her Church. She was an active member of St. George Church, the choir and the Ladies Society. She could often be found at the church or in the church kitchen with the ladies, baking, creating crafts for fundraisers, or helping those in need. In her spare time, Mrs. Showah enjoyed sewing and quilting; in fact, she was a member of a regional Quilters Club.

Mrs. Showah is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John S. Showah. She is survived by her three daughters Laura Nicoletti and her husband Lew of Danbury; Debbie Tierney and her husband Jim of Danbury; and Jean Alicandro and her husband Chuck of New Britain; two brothers, Albert “Poncho” Nassra of Bridgeport and Alex Nassra of Danbury. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Joe and wife Sara, John, Erin, Jimmy, Carly, and Jennifer, as well as several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Mrs. Showah’s beloved caregivers.

The Rite of Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 125 Kohanza St., Danbury with the Very Rev. Fr. George Alberts officiating.

Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at St. George Antiochian Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The Trisagion Prayer Service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
