Danbury, Bethel Resident Kay Sam, 87

The family will receive friends at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home Wednesday evening.

Katherine “Kay” (Brennan) Sam, 87, of Bethel, formerly of Danbury, wife of the late Michael G. Sam died on Sunday morning, Aug. 4, 2013 at Bethel Health Care, Bethel.

Kay was born in Bridgeport, June 5, 1926, a daughter of the late Egbert and Lillian (Frenzel) Brennan. She attended Bridgeport schools and graduated from Central High School in the Class of 1947. Upon graduation, Mrs. Sam was employed by the Burroughs and Underwood Corporations.

A resident of Danbury since 1950 coming from Bridgeport, Mrs. Sam was a homemaker and was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and walking.

She was involved in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church along with her husband Mike and St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church.

Mrs. Sam was a member of St. Peter Parish of Danbury.

Kay is survived by a son, Gary M. Sam and his companion, Karen Carchidi of Simsbury, CT; a daughter, Deborah Gallick and her husband, Craig of Thomaston, CT; a sister, Elizabeth Burke of Fairfield; two brothers, Frederick Brennan of Alexandria, VA, and Vincent Brennan of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister in law, Kathy Brennan; a grandson, Damon Gallick and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sam was predeceased by a brother, John Brennan; a brother in law, Joseph Burke; and by two sisters in law, Lee Brennan and Eileen Brennan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 115 Main St., Danbury.

Burial will take place in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Contributions to Regional Hospice and Home Care, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT, 06810, would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank the residents of the Cascades and the staffs of Regional Hospice and Home Care and Bethel Health Care for the kindness, compassion and caring they extended to our mother and to ourselves.
