Lowes sells a 5 KW solar panel kit for $11,499 (installation not included Model #: GS-5000-KIT). TheRead More kit specifications indicate it can produce between 3,600 KWh to 8,400 KWh per year. In Connecticut 1 KWh costs around $.17+- depending who your energy producer is. When I multiply 8,400 times 17 cents, my calculator says the money saved by this $11,499 investment is between $612 to $1,428 per year. Green power from Con-Ed supplied via CL&P to my home costs an extra penny per KWh. This means I can avoid the $11,499 out of pocket and pay $36 to $84 per year to get the same green energy from my utility. Why would anyone pay $11,499 vs $84?
