NEXT TO NORMAL's story concerns a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. The musical also addresses such issues as grieving a loss, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. The musical opened on Broadway in April 2009. It was nominated for eleven 2009 Tony Awards and won three, Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming just the eighth musical in history to receive the honor.

“A transcendent, powerful new American musical with a bristling, contemporary rock score, smart lyrics and raw energy.” -- Washington Times

Tonight's performance of NEXT TO NORMAL at Bridgeport Theatre Company has been cancelled. But Saturday and Sunday performances are still ON! If you are a ticket holder for Friday, PLEASE CONTACT our box office company, BROWN PAPER TICKETS at 800.838.3006 IMMEDIATELY to decide between: (1) Being re-seated at either Sat Feb 9 @ 8pm or the closing performance Sun Feb 10 @ 5pm. We have room at both performances (though your seats will most likely be in new locations). Please contact them as soon as possible. They are open 24/7. Please do not email, call them directly at 800.838.3006 or if you aren't able to attend Sat or Sun you may request a full refund. We felt it was the best decision given the predictions and wanting to give enough notice for patrons to be re-seated. Hope to still see you at the theatre!

WEATHER ALERT (as of Feb 9): Due to the slow process of clearing streets in Downtown Bridgeport / the theater parking lot, we have unfortunately have CANCELED both performances SUNDAY FEB 10th. HOWEVER, we are happy to announce we will be extending the run of the show--- WE HAVE ADDED TWO PERFORMANCES: next SAT FEB 16 @ 8PM and SUN FEB 17 @ 5PM. If you are a current ticket holder for any performance this weekend (Fri Feb 8, Sat Feb 9, or Sun Feb 10) PLEASE CONTACT BROWN PAPER TICKETS IMMEDIATELY at 800.838.3006 to decide between either being re-seated for Feb 16 or 17, or if you are unable to make those dates, you may request a full refund. We are sorry to have to cancel, but we put our patrons' safety first -- we decided it was just too difficult to guarantee that our audiences would be able to have easy access to the theater.
