Musicals at Richter 2013 Season Announced

Coming to the outdoor venue in Danbury

Official 2013 Season Announcement

Musicals at Richter is thrilled to announce the line-up for our 29th Season Under the Stars!

The 2013 summer productions will be...

Some Enchanted Evening
6 performances:
June 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29

Music by Richard Rodgers

Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Concept by Jeffrey B. Moss
for Jerry Kravat Ent. Services

More so than any composer and lyricist who have written for the stage, the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein have become an integral part of our everyday lives. We sing them in the shower, we dance to them in ballrooms, we hear them on the radio and TV commercials and in elevators and supermarkets too. We still thrill to them on the stage in their respective shows and we teach them to our children. This stunning collection of compositions place our talented performers in a theatrical setting where the songs are sung with their own style and sensibilities. This show offers the audience a glorified parade of genuine hits.

9 to 5: The Musical
8 performances:
July 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20

Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton
Book by Patricia Resnick

Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do- even in a man's world. Set in the late 1970's, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. Outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is about teaming up and taking care of business.

Cats
10 performances:
July 25, 26, 27, 28; August 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats
by T.S. Elliot

Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S.Elliot, Cats tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heavenside layer. A true musical Phenomenon. Cats ran on Broadway for just over 18 years and has been touring the country ever since.

We will also be holding our Summer Youth Theater Musical Workshop which will stage three performances on August 15, 16, and 17. Stay tuned for our announcement of the workshop show!

g, Let's throw out some more numbers... Here is a site to look at:Read More http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/PDF/dgm/report1/basiccon.pdf This is the Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Grants Management spreadsheet. It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

Good afternoon Jessica, Danbury plans to spend approximately $114,000,000 on teaching staff salaryRead More and benefits for the next school year per the school budget here - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/bbadmin/Budget/2012-2013%20budget.pdf the total budget is $121,000,000. Teachers, administrators, contracted professionals, staff enrichment programs, staff insurance, and the rest comprise about 95% of the school system budget. See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
