outside the entrance was a Bentley, as elegant as the concert that was about to
commence at Ives Concert Park last Saturday night, Aug. 31. Broadway singer Linda Eder took
the stage with a small four-piece band and performed for an intimate group of
200 who were seated cabaret-style at tables on the stage.
Eder’s show was not limited to Broadway tunes. Jazz, country and Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” were among the selections that she sang superbly. One song, “I Dreamed a Dream,” from the show “Les Miserables,” stood apart from the rest.
On Friday, Eder conducted a Master Class on Vocal Performance at WCSU and featured two of the best vocalists from the class to perform while she took her break. Rachel Fournier, a WCSU senior with eyes on Broadway, sang exceptionally well. Later on in the show, Steve Valenzuela, a second-year transfer student at WCSU performed his Broadway solo and it was outstanding.
VIP ticket holders were treated to a meet and greet reception with Eder after the performance.
Ives Festival Orchestra is performing for free on Sunday, Sep. 8 at the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St., Danbury—not at the park.
