Ives August Music Festivals

What do The Beatles, Ecuador and reggae have in common? Not much—except that the Ives Concert Park will host music festivals for each this month. The Ives is the perfect outdoor venue for a music festival, with its beautiful grounds, wide array of food choices, and now—water misting fans to cool off our visitors.

Saturdays in August will feature a Beatles Music Festival with 10 bands on Aug. 3, and a Reggae Festival with Beres Hammond and Maxi Priest on Aug. 10, thanks to the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts & Family Series. On Sunday, Aug. 11, there will be an Ecuadorian Festival.

Heart and Soul entertainment is producing the Reggae Festival with Beres Hammond and Maxi Priest on Aug. 10, with gates opening at 4 pm. Beres Hammond reigns as Jamaica’s most esteemed singer-songwriter and has amassed an abundance of songs over the past 40 years to his credit, among them, the popular hit “One Love, One Life.” Maxi Priest hails from South London and is the only reggae singer to have a No. 1 hit in America. He’s toured the world many times and is the most widely travelled of any reggae star. This festival will undoubtedly have Jamaican food selections, as well. Tickets are available at www.etix.com/ticket/online/performanceSearch.jsp?performance_id=1724954&search_source=etix&language=en.

The Ecuadorian Festival will brighten the park on Aug. 11, from 10 to 8 pm. with colorful costumes, native music and folk dances. Tickets are only available at the gates for this festival.

Choose a festival to enjoy and don’t forget that on Aug. 22, Dropkick Murphys will rock the house at this general admission event.
