Danbury honors favorite son Eric Metaxas at Jericho Partnership event

One hundred sixty guests were present at the Matrix Corporate Center in Danbury, Conn. on Thursday, May 9, as Jericho and the city celebrated a favorite son, Eric Metaxas. Watch a short excerpt of his talk here.

Eric, a supporter of Jericho Partnership (www.jerichopartnership.org), who grew up in Danbury, is an international speaker, award-winning author, and cultural commentator. The keynote speaker at the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., he is the host of BreakPoint, a syndicated radio commentary on 1,400 outlets with an audience of eight million. At the May 9 event, in conjunction with Jericho's Faith in the Marketplace annual dinner, Eric was presented with a special citation from the State of Connecticut by State Sen. Michael McLachlan, and received the key to the City of Danbury from Mayor Mark Boughton.

Following the presentations, Eric spoke very personally about his great love for Danbury, where his parents still reside, of his faith journey from altar boy to ardent Christ-follower, and of his conviction that ordinary people who truly live by Christ’s teachings can change the world.

Jericho Partnership’s friendship with Eric stems not only from his Danbury roots, but from the conviction we share with him about Christ-centered radical transformation of culture for the benefit of all. As ordinary people have done throughout history in their own time and place, Jericho’s mission is to mobilize ministry and transform our culture for the glory of God and the common good of the people of our city. We do this through a partnership of Christ-centered churches, word-and-deed ministries and private foundations that serve the youth, homeless and other at-risk populations of Danbury. Our 10 partner ministries, 22 partner churches, three partner foundations and 2,750 volunteers serve many hundreds of our neediest neighbors under the power and direction of God’s Holy Spirit.

Eric’s definitive biographies, Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy, and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery, and his latest book, Seven Men and the Secret of Their Greatness speak eloquently to these issues. Copies were available for purchase and for the author to sign at the May 9 event.
