The Art of Reading

An evening of art and literature at Mill Ridge School Readiness

A red carpet lined the hallway, art work from various artists was carefully displayed and attendees were wearing their best…pajamas?  The Mill Ridge School Readiness Program celebrated its first art show and pajama reading night on Thursday to the delight of families and friends.

The Preschool content standard of creative expression and aesthetic development has been evident in Mrs. Gina Nunez’s classroom.  The School readiness staff have introduced their preschool friends to artists such as Picasso and Frida Kahlo.  Various art projects exploring the mediums of biocolor, watercolor, scratch art and clay were proudly displayed for parents and visitors.  Mill Ridge Preschool students were able to respond to their own creative work and the work of peers while showing their creations to all who attended.  An “autograph wall” completed this gallery.

The program was also fortunate to welcome Ms. Christine, Librarian from the Danbury Public Library.  She read a variety of stories and sang songs with the preschool students to promote a love of reading.  Encouraging all listeners to visit the library and read every day was well received by the Mill Ridge School Readiness Program.

The evening came to a close with each child receiving a new book and enjoying a family dinner provided by the program.  On behalf of the Mill Ridge Family Resource Center and School Readiness Program, we would like to thank the Danbury Public Library and the Mill Ridge School Readiness parents for making the evening a success.
